Silicon Image's new product, slated for the fourth quarter, has two distinct parts: a transmitter PHY chip and a companion link-layer intellectual-property core for use in mobile systems-on-chip. Dolphin's SRI and SRO switching regulators can be placed in the neighborhood of sensitive analog components on a SoC floorplan, because their power transistors do not produce more substrate noise than a digital circuit of the same size, and their switching frequency may be programmed to avoid sensitive frequency ranges.

The devices are also an ideal power supply for a low power SoC working on battery, seeing as their efficiency is maintained over the input voltage range and output current range. Efficiency no longer depends on the value of external components.

The SRI and SRO devices have been introduced in various configurations and process nodes for direct connection to battery and USB port or low voltage applications. The robustness of the regulators makes them transferable to different process technologies.

LONDON — Nokia Siemens Networks has won follow-on network expansion orders worth Euros 550 million ($865 million) from China Mobile, one of the world's top mobile operators.

The deal includes designing, building, maintaining and optimising radio and core networks of the operator, significantly increasing its network capacity. The expansion includes supply of NSN's latest, energy efficient Flexi base station, mobile softswitching and Operating Support System solutions in key provinces and cities across China.
