Board-level test-and-measurement and data-acq vendor Gage Applied Technologies (Montreal, Canada) is releasing what it calls its Extreme Memory option for CompactPCI/PXI platforms.

Gage has adapted its hardware and software, previously only available for the PCI platform, to create digitizers with an extraordinary 2-Gbytes (!) of on-board acquisition memory.

Designed primarily to enhance the performance and range of applications of its 14-bit and 16-bit digitizers, Gage equips its Extreme Memory products with up to 2-Gbytes of memory that fits in a 2-slot 6U-sized CompactPCI/PXI form-factor, including a 2-channel digitizer.

As with its wares for the PCI platform, Gage brings to bear its GageScope software to transfer and display the extremely large data sets created by such deep captures. It uses DMA on the PCI bus underlying the CompactPCI/PXI platform for fast data transfers. Data decimation and zooming features then let you focus of the regions of interest and perform advanced analysis.

The same functions can also be programmed by using one of Gage's application development kits for LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, MATLAB, or C and C++.

Key specifications include 12-bit system offset and gain adjustment for every channel, +/-1 LSB integral nonlinearity (INL), +/-0.65 LSB differential nonlinearity (DNL) and -78dB distortion (10kHz).

The device has a very flexible digital interface. Two standard parallel port operating modes, a serial peripheral interface (SPI) and a specialized serial interface with three data lines (VECANA01 mode) are provided. The ADS7869 can easily interface to most digital signal processors (DSPs) or microcontrollers.

The ADS7869 is available now from TI and its authorized distributors. The device is packaged in a TQFP-100 and is priced from $14.60 in 1,000 piece quantities (suggested resale price).
